AUBURN UNIVERSITY SOL RACING TEAM

This Universities solar car team came from an idea for a Mechanical Engineering senior project, to build a small remote-control solar-powered car.  This mushroomed into the largest undergraduate engineering project ever undertaken at Auburn University.  Their project gained momentum when GM announced sponsorship of the 1990 GM Sunrayce from Orlando, Florida to Detroit, Michigan.

Life in the fast lane

Auburn's participation allows students to refine management and design skills and test improvements in real time.  The SOL of Auburn car has run in many races since the construction of the first car. There has been a total of four cars built since this project started, and please see the race history below.

The Auburn University solar car team consists of about 25 dedicated Auburn students. Mechanical Engineers, Electrical Engineers, and Non-Engineers make up the team.

Each Monday of the week the team discuss progress, then work on the car Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday.  Most of the new team members are making their debut as solar car builders. The team say contact them at any time if you want to become involved in Auburn's largest undergraduate research project. All students are welcome to join - Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors.
